Choose your canvas size based on three criteria: how detailed the design is, how much time you want to spend on it and how much room you have to work and display it. For beginners, a canvas with a long side of about 40 cm works well. Most Oraloa kits have a long side between 50 and 90 cm, and for the same design, the round-drill version is printed on a canvas about 10% larger than the square-drill version.
This guide is based on the dimensions listed on the product pages of our diamond painting catalogue in October 2026. Proportions are rounded and given as a guide.
Why size changes the result
Diamond painting works like a mosaic: each drill is one “pixel” of a larger image. The larger the canvas, the more drills it holds, and the more faithfully details are reproduced, with crisp outlines and a realistic finish. On a small canvas, a face or a very detailed landscape will inevitably look more simplified.
That is why size is not left to chance at Oraloa: for each design, our artists and our team set a format chosen to limit the pixelated effect while keeping the work enjoyable. The size shown on the product page is the one that serves the artwork best.

Round or square: the canvas is not the same size
This is a detail people often discover too late: for the same design, the round-drill version is printed on a larger canvas, about 10% longer on each side. Two examples from the catalogue:
- Green Corner by Zoe Hansen: 59.51 × 77.28 cm with round drills, 53.9 × 70 cm with square drills;
- Foxy by Maria Chetkareva: 60.72 × 86.11 cm with round drills, 55 × 78 cm with square drills.
If you already have a frame or a specific spot in mind, check the dimensions of the version you choose. To compare the two drill shapes, read our article Round or Square Diamond Painting: Which to Choose and Why?
Size and level: how they relate
Size is one of the criteria that determine a kit’s level. In our catalogue, the most common long side is about 40 cm for Beginner level kits, 67 cm for Intermediate and 77 cm for Expert. The number of colours increases in the same way. A large canvas is not harder drill by drill, but it takes more time, more colours to follow and more perseverance.
To get off to a good start, our guide First diamond painting: which kit should you choose for your level? covers the other criteria.
Think about your workspace and where it will hang
- Your table: plan a surface larger than the canvas, so the tray and bags are within easy reach.
- The protective film: peel it back as you go, section by section, rather than all at once. This matters even more on a large canvas.
- Display: once finished, the artwork can be framed like a painting or mounted on a rigid backing. Measure the space before choosing a very large format.

Frequently asked questions
What is the smallest diamond painting canvas at Oraloa?
Miniloha sets bring together mini canvases starting at 10 × 10 cm. As single canvases, some kits measure 15 × 15 cm.
And the largest?
The largest formats in the catalogue exceed 90 cm on the long side and go up to about 97 × 130 cm.
What size should I choose for a portrait or a landscape?
The more detailed the image, the larger the canvas needs to be to do it justice. A detailed portrait or landscape therefore benefits from a large format; in any case, the size shown on the product page is the one we chose for that design.
Where can I find the exact size of a kit?
On its product page, in the Details section, in centimetres and inches. When the kit comes in round and square, both sizes are listed.
Are large canvases only for experts?
No, but they take more time. If you are a beginner, start with a medium format or a Miniloha, then increase the size with each project.
