Schim Schimmel

Snow leopards, white tigers, elephants and lions; the Earth, the Moon, galaxies and nebulae – these are the subjects that leap from a Schimmel canvas and capture the hearts of those who admire his work. For more than twenty years, Schim Schimmel has painted in a style all his own, expressing on canvas his love and wonder for this incredible planet, its animals, and the universe that created them.

Schim Schimmel studied art with his father, William Schimmel, a renowned watercolorist and art teacher. Schim went on to teach watercolor, oil and acrylic painting to thousands of students for more than a decade. In 1987, he stopped teaching to devote himself fully to his developing artistic style, a style for which he is now recognized around the world.

In 1991, Schimmel's works were exhibited at the Tokyo Art Expo in Japan. His work was immediately embraced by the Japanese, and a year later he was approached by Shogakukan, one of the largest book publishers in Japan, to write a children's book using his artwork. Since then, Schimmel has produced six more books and has traveled to Japan more than 50 times, taking part in hundreds of art exhibitions in dozens of cities across the country's four main islands. Schimmel continues to take part in exhibitions every year with Art Vivant, Japan's leading fine art company.
