Jon Rattenbury

Jon Rattenbury is known for his meticulous attention to detail and exceptional mastery of light and color, which allows him to capture the spectacular beauty of nature. His deep passion for the natural world shines through in each of his dreamlike works.

Born in Cheltenham, England, Jon Rattenbury comes from a family of artists. Both her mother and grandmother were talented musicians, cultivating her creative spirit from an early age. When he was three years old, his family emigrated to the United States and settled in northern California.

Rattenbury spent his youth exploring the diverse landscapes of California, drawing inspiration from the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains and the spectacular California coastline. Self-taught, he began drawing at a very young age before turning to oil painting and acrylic at the age of thirteen. His natural talent and passion for art manifested themselves very early.

After completing high school, Rattenbury honed his artistic skills by working in various positions in the creative industries. He worked in particular with tinted and engraved glass, carried out photographic retouching and also acquired experience in the printing sector.

In the 1990s, Rattenbury began exhibiting his work in galleries throughout Southern California, marking the start of his full-time career as an artist. It was also during this period that his art experienced real growth on the Japanese market. Since then, it has enjoyed lasting success which continues to this day.

Rattenbury is particularly recognized for his innovative dimensional acrylic on aluminum technique. This unique process combines a wide variety of materials, including aluminum, modeling clay, polymer clay, resin, glass, stone, sand and metallic acrylic paints, to create striking works, rich in relief and texture.

By cutting out and elevating certain elements, such as trees and leaves, from the background, Rattenbury brings depth and contrast to his compositions. He further enriches the textures of his works by incorporating different types of stones, sand and glass, then covered with resin to obtain a neat finish.

Complementing his dimensional acrylic creations, Rattenbury also creates beautiful paintings on canvas depicting landscapes and wildlife with great detail and vibrant colors.

Rattenbury's works have been featured in exhibitions and galleries around the world, attracting a growing number of collectors. He has collaborated with Park West Gallery and participated in numerous VIP events, both on land and aboard cruise ships. His work has also met with considerable success in Japan, where he has exhibited in several major cities and where he continues to visit each year for new exhibitions.

Beyond his artistic career, Rattenbury is also a passionate musician. He has released two albums of New Age music, “Eternal Spirit” and “Ascension”.

Rattenbury's artistic creations have also been licensed for a wide range of products, including puzzles, cross-stitch patterns, 3D prints, mosaics, flags, screensavers, notebooks, magnets, calendars and cards.
