Jody Bergsma

Jody has a diverse painting style that has developed over the years and over thousands of paintings. Her first works were charming children's illustrations, which she sold at art shows in the Northwest to pay for her studies.

Jody's watercolor technique is self-taught. Her engineering degree is reflected in her compositions and shows Jody's love of mathematics and geometry. She blends these elements effortlessly with her imaginative inner visions to create her unique style.

She is often asked why she uses Aboriginal, Indigenous and geometric symbols. Her ongoing studies have introduced her to many ancient cultures and the beauty of their designs. By working respectfully with these images, Jody takes part in the meaning of our history and brings their symbols back into our modern culture.

I propose that humanity shares a common reality, just beyond the reach of normal sight. Images are emotions, the ones that are invisible but felt... inaudible but known. There are moments when we are keenly aware of existence... like the feeling of exultation when standing at the edge of a mountain, or on top of a crescent moon. Each person's physical adventure is unique, but the abstract language of feelings, and our realization of existence, is our common experience. My paintings are part of my personal adventure. Memory simplifies the scenery. I no longer see the edge of the mountain, but I see the feelings it stirred.

Art is a tradition that helps define who we are and gives us a vision of what we can become. My painting is my expression and my plea for a more beautiful, more peaceful and more harmonious world.

I wish you an endless childhood,
