About the artist

Created at the beginning of the 20th century by the Max and Dave Fleischer brothers, Fleischer Studios was a pioneer in the art and the animation technique. The studio is at the origin of the creation and animation of some of the most emblematic characters of the American cartoon, notably Betty Boop and Koko the clown. It is also famous for having animated two extremely popular comics characters: Popeye (originally created by Elzie Segar) and Superman (originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster).

The artists of Fleischer Studios were not only animators, but also innovators. Renowned for their revolutionary integration of real shots with animation, their ingenious cartoons with the famous "bouncing ball", their dark and often surrealist urban decorations, as well as their musical cartoons featuring jazz artists from the time - including the very first filmed images of Cab Calloway -, they also invented several techniques, such as the Rotoscope of Max and set-back ”. The influence of Fleischer Studios is still found today in various fields, ranging from musical clips to karaoke, including Japanese animation.
