My first name is Julie, they nickname me BuiBui.
Originally from the banks of Lake Geneva, I set down my suitcases in Ain, alongside a weeping willow. I live there with my lover, my pretty daughter, my pretty boy, a lot of paper, a lot of paint and a gaggle of pencils.
As far back as I can remember, I have always had a pencil in my hand.
Having studied the history of Art (mainly from the 20th century) at the Lycée, I obtained a Bac L Plastic Arts in 2005 then did a very brief stint at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Lyon. The teaching practiced was not made for me!
Since then I have been painting, gluing, drawing and coloring constantly, always looking for new ideas and techniques. It’s a necessity!
Inspired by youth illustration, singular art, the culture of Street Art and even the Primitive Arts, I work to develop a personal and poetic universe which aims to be an invitation to travel, into worlds populated by melancholy creatures, and in which time often seems to have stopped.
Based mainly on the human figure (often female) and nature, my work combines false naivety, colors, patterns and other heady interminglings which are like so many paths in the course of our thoughts.
My characters and other landscapes each have a unique story that I tell myself while giving birth to them, and I like those who look to imagine it in turn...
Technical
Lately I've been mixing paint, acrylic inks and markers. I often add colored pencil and use my precious rotring and staedler pens (refillable pens for technical drawing). I have used gouache and pen a lot in the past and am always looking for new techniques.
Having worked a lot on canvas frames, I have recently opted for supports with smoother surfaces such as wood and paper.
