  • WHO IS JULIE BUIBUI?

    Oraloa - Julie Buibui

My first name is Julie, I am nicknamed BuiBui.

Coming from the shores of Lake Geneva, I put my suitcases in the Ain, alongside a weeping willow. I live there with my boyfriend, my pretty girl, my pretty boy, lots of paper, a lot of paint and a bunch of pencils.

As far back as I can remember, I have always had a pencil in my hand.

Having studied Art History (mainly of the 20th century) at Lycée, I obtained a Bac L Plastic Arts in 2005 then made a very brief stint at L'Ecole National Fine Arts of Lyon. The teaching practiced was not for me!

Since then I paint, glue, draw and color constantly, always looking for new ideas and techniques. It's a necessity!

Inspired by both youth illustration, Singular Art, the culture of Street Art or even the Primary Arts, I work to develop a personal and poetic universe that aims to be be an invitation to travel, in worlds populated by melancholy creatures, and in which time often seems to have stood still.

Based mainly on the human figure (often female) and nature, my work mixes false naivety, colors, patterns and other heady intertwining which are like so many paths in the course of our thoughts.

My characters and other landscapes each have a unique story that I tell myself when I give birth to them, and I like those who look at it to imagine it in turn ...

    Technical

Recently I have been mixing paint, acrylic inks and markers. I often add colored pencil to it and use my precious rotring and staedler pens (refillable pens for technical drawing). I have used gouache and pen a lot in the past and am always looking for new techniques.

Having worked a lot on canvas frames, I recently opted for supports with smoother surfaces such as wood and paper.
